Experience of drilling surveys
Our drilling technology department was launched by drilling engineers who had handled exploration drillings undertaken by Sumitomo Metal Mining (SMM). These inherited drilling skills for mineral exploration have helped launch many exploration drilling works in projects mainly conducted by the Metal Mining Agency of Japan (MMAJ), which is presently the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC). Our drilling engineers engaged in technology transfers to drillers of developing countries in Official Development Assistance projects in Asia, Africa and South America, and elsewhere that were conducted by MMAJ and the Japan International Cooperation Agency jointly. From 1970's to 1980's we carried out drilling surveys for uranium exploration in West Africa. At present, the mining & engineering department conducts exploration and sampling drilling inside and outside the galleries of the Hishikari gold mine held by SMM located in Kagoshima prefecture in the southern part of Japan.In addition, our drilling engineers support operation drilling machines mounted on board and the seabed for exploration of ocean floor mineral resources.
Through deep drilling and core sampling skills acquired from exploration drilling, we have experience drilling deep boreholes for investigation of subsurface geology, such as active fault investigations conducted by research organizations of the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), the National Research Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and so on. Deep wells and drainage boreholes for tunnel constructions were drilled.
Participation in technical development programs includes the innovative drilling direction control for slim holes project conducted by the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry. A proprietary enlargement device which extends the dimeter of a drilling bit in a borehole using hydraulic power has been developed. We also propose and improve drilling tools applied to a JOGMEC Benthic Multi-coring System.
